The stud’s principals, Roger and Dianne Trewick, said this year’s offering consisted of a well-balanced group of rams with many showing extreme muscling coming from sire Pepperton 180339, the leading ram for muscle on Lambplan figures.
“Many years of breeding have gone into producing these rams, which are showing consistently good birthweights, growth, muscle, positive intramuscular fat, and shear force (tenderness) which combine to give consumers the good eating experience they desire to improve overall productivity,” Mrs Trewick said.
“Our rams now feature in many studs across Australia.
“We weigh, tag and record parentage of every lamb at birth and at 250 days a post-weaning ultrasound scan is conducted by an accredited Lambplan scanner, to record fat depth, muscle and weight.”
Right down the line-up, excellent Lambplan indices are evident as a result of many years of AI breeding using leading Lambplan sires.
Many of the rams are performing well above the terminal expectations with a majority being in the top 10 per cent across many of the indices.
Pepperton runs 1200 sheep with 500 breeding ewes, splitting lambing between autumn and spring.
“This year has been a very good one with high lambing percentage and timely rainfall to assist lambs in achieving good weaning weights,” Mr Trewick said.
Mr Trewick is a fifth-generation farmer since his family settled the Elmore property in 1864.
His father created Wharoonah Dorset Horn Stud in 1943. The Trewicks established Pepperton Poll Dorset Stud in 1994 and then began breeding White Suffolks in 2004.
The online and on-property sale will be held on Wednesday, October 12 at 1pm.
Rams are available for inspection on Saturday, October 1 and Saturday, October 8.
The stud will also have a display at the Elmore Field Days, which runs from October 4 to 6.
