Sassy apples have the right attitude

Sassy apples did well in their first season.

The brand new Sassy apple has wrapped up its first commercial season, and Redland said it was a success.

“It’s been really, really well received,” Redland head of sales and marketing Jordan Bain said.

“Good demand from consumer, wholesaler and retailer. Everyone got behind it.”

Despite exclusively being grown in Merrigum, Zeerust and Toolamba, the Sassy apple has gone national.

“We managed to get product into all major capital cities across Australia,” Mr Bain said.

“The feedback we’ve been getting is that everyone is really happy with the flavour, and the colour that we’re able to achieve, particularly with such an early maturing varietal.

“It’s one of the first, if not the first, club variety to come off a tree in Australia and typically warm weather doesn't bode well with colouring of apples, but this variety, it loves it, so it’s absolutely cherry ripe for the Goulburn Valley, that’s for sure.”
