Taking over the business at the end of April last year, Jodie is gradually transforming the store to meet modern bridal needs.
“I am trying to make it a bit more modern, a bit fresher and expand the range of mother-of-the-bride and guest wear,” Jodie said.
“We don’t have a lot at the moment, so I am looking to do a few new ranges, maybe some custom-made stuff and that sort of thing.”
Jodie, who has a sewing and fabric retail background, is passionate about providing a comprehensive service to local brides.
“People from here buy a dress in the city, because they think they have to, but we have a very good range,” she said.
“We can get things in for people that they want, and I can alter anything that needs altering, if it comes in and it is not quite right.”
The store offers a wide range of bridal wear, including dresses from popular brands such as International Couture, Tanya Olsen Designs, and Sugar & Spice.
Jodie is also introducing new labels like Lulu & Lace and Tina Holly.
The range includes wedding dresses, debutante dresses, mother of the bride and bridesmaids’ dresses.
The store can accommodate all sizes and is happy to get the same bridesmaids’ dresses in, in various sizes or different dresses in the same colour or material if that is the look a wedding party is after.
“The current trends are either quite plain or very fancy, and there is not a lot in between,” Jodie said, describing the various styles available.
“Sparkly, full, big, and lots of detail.
“People tend to either go for that or something really plain, but I have got lots of in-between.”
Jodie thinks it is essential to make your wedding your own special day, making it what you want it to be.
In addition to bridal wear, Sew Bridal and Special Occasions offers men’s suit hire, helium balloons for any occasion and is an agent for Bendigo Dry Cleaners.
While the building housing the store is currently for sale, Jodie is committed to serving the local community.
“As long as I am allowed, I'll stay here,” she said.
“It is pretty purpose-built and really good for the purpose, we have plenty of room here, three change rooms and a workroom.”
Soon, as she has to wait for council approval for the heritage-listed shopfront, Jodie will be sprucing up the store to create a formal, very tailored-to-the-wedding look store.
