Get ready, as this week ABC is thrilled to announce that it is showing a new ingenious six-part music comedy documentary. Written by The Chaser’s Chris Taylor and Andrew Hansen, the series features thirty-six original songs and six of Australia’s most iconic stories in musical form.
This exciting event will premiere on Wednesday, November 8, at 9pm on ABC TV and ABC iView.
The cast may be familiar to audiences as many have appeared in other productions. Featured performers include Phoenix Jackson Mendoza, Six the Musical; Michelle Brasier, Aunty Donna’s Coffee café; Fiona Choi The Family Law, Sami Afuni, Hamilton; Nicholas Kong, Miss Saigon and Amy Lehpamer, Beautiful: The Carol King Musical.
As viewers tune in, the series will intercut musical numbers with interviews featuring the real-life individuals who inspired these stories.
The musicals explore the unlikely triumph of ice-skater Steven Bradbury, the fairy-tale of the young Tasmanian woman Mary Donaldson, the international meltdown caused by Johnny Depp’s pet dogs, Pistol and Boo. Additionally the comedy of errors surrounding Melbourne’s ill-fated Ferris wheel, the saga of Schapelle Corby and the political drama of the Tampa affair.
