But there are sports that often go unnoticed, flying under the radar.
The News decided to head down to a local carpet bowls game to find out what brought the players to the game and what keeps them there.
Here’s what they had to say.

I was originally a tennis player and when I felt that I couldn’t play anymore, I moved to bowls. I enjoy it really because it is a bit of a social day out and I get to enjoy a team sport. I first played for a rural team but then changed to play for Shepp East which is who I’m with now.

My mum and dad played, I said I would never play, but then I was nagged and nagged by a friend so I ended up giving in. It is the people that keep me here. There’s some really lovely ladies in the club, a good supportive group of ladies. My husband said he would join so it’s become something we do together which I think is great.

I was in the navy when I was younger and that got me into carpet bowls. When I moved down to Dookie, I was asked to play carpet bowls here, which I do now. Both the social aspect of being here and the gameplay itself keep me coming back.

12 years ago a friend told me I should join bowls when I retire, and well, now I’m retired so here I am and it’s good. I enjoy the bowling, I’m not very good at it but I enjoy it. It’s also good for socialising with my friends.
