Throughout VCE, Jack studied health and human development, physical education, general English, further maths and biology, all of which set him up for his first preference.
The 18-year-old from Arcadia aims to head to La Trobe University in Bendigo to complete a Bachelor of Outdoor and Sustainability Education.
Having participated in La Trobe University’s Aspire Program, Jack is confident his goal will hopefully soon become a reality with a conditional early entry offer to the course.
“It’s quite a broad course that will give me an opportunity to go work in parks or land management, which I’ll hopefully go into,” he said.
As a second preference, Jack has applied for a Bachelor of Sport, Health and Physical Activity (Outdoor Education).
Before heading to uni, he plans to take a gap year to work with his father, an archaeologist, in Melbourne.
Like many of his peers, finishing Year 12 has brought great relief, but also reflection of his time at school in the region.
Having attended Kialla West Primary School, Jack went on to his secondary education at the former McGuire College in Shepparton until Year 11 before making the transition to GSSC.
Aside from becoming familiar with the amalgamation, Year 12 continued to throw challenges left, right and centre for the cohort.
“Moving all together it was quite the change for us kids but once we got used to it, it was good and as an overall experience, it was very enjoyable,” Jack said.
“We were almost sort of the guinea pigs at the start but we progressed really well and considering we went through COVID-19 and floods at the end, I think we all did pretty good to be honest.”
