The Goulburn Valley Creamery processes about 100 million litres of milk annually and is about to undergo a further $40 million expansion.
The visiting group included 12 young dairy farmers from Gippsland and a group from northern Victoria who were on the Young Dairy Network study tour and looking at sustainable dairy futures over two days in the region.
As well as visiting Goulburn Valley Creamery, the group called at Andrew Murphy’s farm in John Allan Rd, Kyabram, and Lewis Watson’s property in Webb Rd.
Goulburn Valley Creamery chief executive officer Mancel Hickey said he was happy to host the tour, particularly as it comprised young farmers wanting to further their knowledge of the industry.
The company invested $40 million into creating a state-of-the-art dairy processing facility and began producing dairy ingredients exclusively for export in October 2020.
A further $40 million is currently being invested in the next stage of the dairy plant, due for completion by July 2023, to add another 50 million litres of processing capacity.
The company employs about 80 people at the Kyabram site, which was originally the home of fruit processor, Ky Fruit, before it became the Henry Jones-IXL factory.
The milk supply for the factory comes from four company-owned farms near Kyabram and local dairy farmers.
