Shannon Schulz will bring a rare mix of toughness, clean skills, and high-level footy to the club. The 26-year-old previously played for Wahgunyah racking up 130 senior games in the Tallangatta and District Football League and captaining two seasons. In 2019, Schulz was also awarded a Best and Fairest award with his former club.
“We are super excited to bring Shannon into the club. He is a very talented and competitive young player, with pace and willingness to attack the game,” CDHBU Football Manager Paul Rippingale told the Free Press.
Meanwhile, older brother Leigh Schulz will bring much-needed depth to Power as an effective forward adding strength and skills to the younger players.
The 30-year-old played 16 senior games over two years at Corowa Rutherglen.
Prior to Corowa Rutherglen, Leigh played 144 senior games at Wahgunyah, and was captain over 2017 and 2018. In 2017 he came equal third for the TDFL Barton medal.
“Leigh has proven himself as a talented forward with an unwavering belief in his own ability and will bring genuine spark to our club,” Rippingale said.
With John Pratt at the helm and Kyle Docherty signed on as assistant coach, Rippingale said the club is in the best position possible moving forward and is no doubt to make finals in 2022.
“The Schulz boys are a great addition to our club. They are both local and 100 per cent committed to our club,” he said.
“Picking up Kyle earlier this year shows we are heading in the right direction, and we will continue to work hard to find the best recruits and keep developing our senior side.
“To be picking up some great recruits before Christmas is very exciting and there’s plenty of buzz around the club. We are making a great start to the season and will push to make sure we are strong contenders in the 2022 Hume League Finals.”
